Privacy Policy

Overview

MeraKhata is a privacy-first, fully offline ledger app designed for everyone — shopkeepers, freelancers, friends, and family — to track credit (udhaar) and payments. This privacy policy explains how your data is handled.

Data Storage

All your data — customer records, transactions, budgets, expenses, business profile, and app settings — is stored locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any data on any server.

Internet Access

MeraKhata requires internet access only for displaying advertisements via Google AdMob. No user data is transmitted to any server. The app's core functionality (ledger, transactions, reports) works completely offline.

Cloud Backup (Optional)

If you choose to use the optional Cloud Backup feature:

• •You select a cloud storage location (e.g., Google Drive, OneDrive) via Android's Storage Access Framework
• •Your backup file is saved directly to the location you choose
• •The backup is handled entirely by your chosen cloud provider — MeraKhata does not transmit any data itself
• •You can revoke access at any time from your device's settings

Android Auto Backup

Android's built-in Auto Backup feature may automatically back up your app data to your Google Account. This is controlled by your device's system settings, not by MeraKhata. The backup is encrypted and stored in a private folder that only you can access.

App Lock (Optional)

If you enable the optional App Lock feature:

• •Your PIN is hashed using SHA-256 with a random salt and stored locally on your device
• •The plaintext PIN is never stored
• •Biometric authentication (fingerprint/face) is handled by the Android system — MeraKhata never receives or stores your biometric data

Advertisements

MeraKhata displays banner ads using Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve relevant ads. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device's Google Settings. The ads are displayed at the bottom of the screen and do not interfere with the app's core functionality.

Permissions

MeraKhata requests the following permissions:

• •Camera: To take transaction photos (optional)
• •Biometric: For app lock feature (optional)
• •Contacts: To import customer information (optional)
• •Storage (legacy): For backup/restore on Android 7-9
• •Notifications: For overdue payment reminders (optional, Android 13+)

Data Deletion

You can delete all your data at any time by:

• •Deleting individual customers, transactions, budgets, or expenses from within the app
• •Uninstalling the app (this removes all local data)
• •Clearing app data from your device's settings

Third-Party Services

MeraKhata uses Google AdMob to display banner ads. AdMob is Google's advertising SDK and may collect anonymous device identifiers to serve ads. No other third-party analytics, tracking, or data collection services are used.

Children's Privacy

MeraKhata is a tool for managing personal and business credit, and is not directed at children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the app or on this page.
